We design a LOT of kitchens around here. And this time of year, we find ourselves in kitchens much more. So we wanted to touch on one aspect of a kitchen if you have plans to remodel. The backsplash. No it’s not glamorous, but it’s an important part to kitchen design and as we all know, kitchens sell houses!
Here’s our advice: Stay neutral and go all the way.
You love color? Great, put it on the walls. Paint is easy and cheap to replace. Tile or stone on a backsplash? Not so simple. And remember, an easy way to date a kitchen is by the materials so keep it simple, keep it classy.
And please, please, please, whatever material you decide on using, use it from the top of your countertop to the bottom of the upper cabinets for a complete backsplash. Most of the time one row of tile, or a 4” high backsplash looks like you ran out of money to finish the job. Plus, spaghetti sauce is much easier to clean off tile than paint.
